Whitfield Estates has been here since the 1920s, and porch and entry screening outnumbers big cages on its streets. Across the parkway, the condos and villas of Palm Aire have more slider screens than pool cages. Window and entry screens are the everyday screen work of this corridor, the jobs that fit between the cage jobs and keep the mosquitoes out of the bedroom. If a window screen has been sitting in the garage since it tore, this is the visit.
Removable window screens are bench work: the frame comes off the window, old mesh and spline come out, the frame is checked for square and corner condition, new mesh goes in with the right spline, and the screen goes back. Bent or corroded frames are rebuilt with new extrusion and corners. Standard 18/14 charcoal matches most homes; 20/20 is available for bedrooms that face the preserve or the river.
Front-door screens and the sliding screen panels on lanai and patio sliders take the most use of any screen in the house. Rollers, tracks, latches, and handles are replaced along with the mesh, and a slider that has jumped its track is re-set so it glides again. Pet-grade mesh on the lower half is the usual answer where dogs go in and out.
For homes without an enclosure, this is the whole screen job. For homes with one, the contractor often handles the window screens on the same visit as a lanai rescreen or panel repair. For a condo association with a building's worth of slider screens, see multi-unit service. None of it requires a permit.
